Zeba Blay is a culture and film critic born in Accra, Ghana and based in New York City. She is the former Senior Culture Writer at The Huffington Post where, in addition to writing commentary on pop culture and politics, she created and produced the annual “Culture Shifters” list. Her writing has also appeared in Film Comment, Indiewire, Allure, ESSENCE, Refinery 29, Teen Vogue, Filmmaker, Shadow and Act, The Village Voice, CNN, Them, Harper’s Bazaar, and the Webby Award-winning MTV digital series “Decoded.” She is the author of Carefree Black Girls, her debut essay collection on the impact of Black women on popular culture. Alongside her freelance work, she writes the Substack newsletter, Carefree Black Girl.
